First thing I loved about this gig was the venue; it’s literally a pub with a beer garden, and a small 200-person music hall next door. The two support acts
were both really good, cant really remember the first ones name, but the Golden Silvers were good, a bit like Vampire Weekend on acid – their bassist came running up to us and thrusted their EP into our hands ‘TAKE ONE TAKE ONE’.The big disappointment of the night were the delays, the Jets were supposed to come on at 10 and finish at 11, but because of sound problems or something they didn’t come on til 11, and because our lift home was at 11.30 we missed a chunk of their set. I’m determined not to blame it on the band, I met Blaine before the gig at the bar and he was really nice and I met William out the back of the venue were he was just strumming away on an acoustic with some of the members of the first support band.
It was a really intimate set, because they came on so late, the small original crowd was even smaller, leaving about 80 people to admire the Eel Pie Island legends; song of the night – ‘Flakes’, just so nice and mellow. Could have done with them playing a few older songs but it was still a good evening.
Mystery Jets played:
'Hideaway'
'Young Love'
'Half In Love With Elizabeth'
'Diamonds In The Dark'
'Flakes'
'Hand Me Down'
but we missed:
'Veiled in Grey'
'The Boy Who Ran Away'
'MJ'
'Two Doors Down'
'Behind the Bunhouse'
'You Can't Fool Me, Dennis'
'Zootime'
