The origins of the Monty Python 'Dead Parrot' sketch have been found in an Ancient Greek joke book dated back to the 4th Century. The joke within Philogelos: The Laugh Addict talks of a man who complains that his slave has died, the e-book can be found here:

I was reading some of them earlier, I never realised the Greeks were so funny.
In other news, many Southern Americans have entered a buying frenzy of guns, why, because they are afraid that well known Commy Barack Obama is going to make rid of the 2nd Amendment, i.e. the right to keep and bare arms. I'm not in a funny mood so I can't make a joke about it, but maybe Philogelos or the Pythons had something funny to say about it xx
